Mission Statement

We, the Catholic faith community of St. Teresa of Avila parish, guided by the Holy Spirit, commit ourselves to proclaim and follow the Good News of Jesus Christ. Basing our lives on faith, hope, and love, we seek to meet our needs and the spiritual and corporal needs of those around us. It is our humble prayer that our lives will be visible signs of His presence in the world as we celebrate Christ in His Word and Sacrament

St Teresa of Avila in Akron - Milk & Porridge - Follow the Babies - Adrian at Home

Last November St. Teresa’s parishioners donated $11, 217 over a two week period to help the little children in Timau, Kenya.  This was the 10th year that St. Teresa’s Women’s Guild has collected to help the people at the mission in Timau which is run by the Sisters of St. Francis. Thanks to the generosity of the parishioners over the years we have provided books & school supplies, food for the Mission’s food distribution program, 5 basic latrines, and shoes for the children (a child in Kenya cannot go to school without shoes).

The Milk & Porridge program provides a baby with nutritional food for a year which includes 2 cups of milk a day, 2 servings of porridge, & 1 serving of fruit or vegetables. The cost per year is $360 per child ($30 a month).  School age children are able to attend school under the Follow the Babies program because they provide school books & supplies, a uniform as well as 2 meals a day & food to eat over the weekend. The cost for a year is $400per child (about $33 a month).

Sister Joanne Gangloff recently reported that the babies & school age children are all being taken care of & doing well.  After a severe drought last year when the corn died in the fields, there were torrential rainfalls & flooding in February of this year.  Many people lost their lives &  the Ministry of Education closed schools for 2 weeks across the country. St. Elizabeth’s is presently in their 2nd term of the school year which will end in early August.  The final term of the year will be August 26 through October 25.

The support of St Teresa's makes a big difference in the lives of many small children.  Every penny collected is used to help the little ones.
